‘Shocking’ nova explosion of dead star was 100 times brighter than the sun

In a Primary-ever near-infrared study of a recurrent nova beyond the Milky Way, astronomers have discovered exceptionally high temperatures and unexpected chemical signatures, pointing to an especially intense explosion.

Nova explosions occur in semi-detached binary systems containing a Chilly Overdue-type Sun and a white dwarf.
